This sculpture is supposed to resemble some kind of mummified head. I let the imagination flow and made it semi-realistic in the sense that it looked real but clearly didn't represent any actual mummy in regards to anatomy or anything else along those lines. Basically just something that scares unsuspecting guests.
The scale is life-size and it sure took a while to complete. I had some luck too in the burning process since it barely, and i mean barely fitted in the oven.
The clay used in all my sculptures is SuperSculpey in some variant. I often experiment with different kind of Sculpeys ranging from soft to hard in the same project. But mostly i prefer the hard grey variant.
After it was cured i just airbrushed it to my liking.
On a side note, sometimes i think it watched me at night. Perhaps it's a good thing that it's safely tucked away in my mother's basement these days where it no doubt plots its evil revenge.
Here's a closer picture of its loving and caring eye's.
Here you can clearly see the different variants of SuperSculpeys used. The gray is the harder one and the more flesh-like looking one is the softer of the two.
At one time i tried a different color scheme.
This can best be described as a Zombie-Rat of some sort. I did airbrush it but wasn't satisfied with the result so I'll leave you with the uncolored version.
Here i tried to create something that would look like a female demon. Unfortunately i didn't finish it and it got crushed during a move to a different apartment. I still regret not having finished it. It certainly had potential and imagine it finished in greenish or reddish color equipped with two huge daggers with the blades pointing downwards. It's what nerds dreams are made of. Anyone who ever played World of Warcraft can see where some of the inspiration came from.
Here it is again from a different angle. Notice the little tail and the would-be hoofs instead of feet.
For this piece I imagined a human looking hand with a little mechanical crab-like creature sitting on top of it and eating its synthetic contents made up of wires and circuits. I never got around creating the mechanical crab though due to time constraints. I also forgot to take a picture when it was more or less finished, but the picture shown here is very close to what turned out to be the final piece. The things missing are more loose skin around the wound and some more minor details and skin at the wrist to make it look more as if the hand had been cut off.
Another angle.
